Nimbostratus Clouds

Nimbostratus clouds are thick, dark, gray clouds associated with rainy and gloomy days that block the Sun. These clouds, producing persistent rain, are usually associated with frontal systems provided by mid-latitude cyclones. These mid-level clouds are often accompanied by continuous moderate rain or snow and appear to cover most of the sky. Nimbostratus typically brings precipitation that can last for several hours until the associated front passes. If there is hail, thunder, or lightning, it is more likely to be a cumulonimbus cloud rather than nimbostratus.
